The Roaring Nineties

1)         Darkness lingers every morning with the advent of dawn.
On the surface things are quiet; there’s nothing really going on.
But deep inside the inner cities of your heart,
Forces of life are slowly being ripped apart.
Then you wake up and tum on the tube.
Commercials map your every move.
TV preachers give you your emotional food,
And remind you that you’re just a by-bystander
IN THE ROARING NINETIES (3X)

2)         High on the hog, low on the totem pole;
You work like a dog to dig further in the hole.
On a spending frenzy, barely a step ahead of poverty;
Your only way out of debt is to win the million-dollar lottery.
Borrow from Peter to pay your debt to Paul;
In your dreams you try to make sense of it all.
Then you wake up in the shopping mall,
And remem-mem-member it’s THE ROARING NINETIES (3X)

3)         High-tech computer age, low-wage economy,
‘Clockwork Orange’ is the setting as we’re heading toward a new century.
Driving down the freeway with a telephone in your hand,
You got your beeper on, it makes you look like your still in command.
Reds are out, tribal warfare is in.
All the disease makes it seem like the end.
Then the TV talk-show host reminds you once again,
It’s just another da-da-da-day IN THE ROARING NINETIES (3X)
