Stand Up (the Water’s Running Out)
In the water we bathe, the water we drink,
Ain’t nothing more important, I think.
A force and a right, we can’t do without;
The source of all life, without any doubt.
Lead in the water from rusty, old pipes,
Rain forests slaughtered by greedy parasites.
Time and again, same stories I heard;
The crisis in Flint’s just the tip of the berg – (we better)
Stand up, stand and be counted,
Stand up, the water’s running out
Stand up, the struggle needs mounted,
When the oceans, lakes and rivers are gone,
There ain’t no way for life to go on.
Without fresh water, our sons and our daughters are done.
Phosphate and nitrate, bromide and benzene,
Suffocates are fates, and poisons our dreams.
That radioactive garbage floating in the seas,
Full of carnage, and cancer and disease.
It doesn’t matter where your’re from or you’re at,
We all need water, it’s a plain and simple fact.
Not talking centuries, or hundreds of years;
By your children’s children, catastrophe is here – (We better)
Stand up, stand and be counted,
Stand up, the water’s running out.
Stand up, the struggle needs mounted,
When the oceans, lakes and rivers are gone,
There ain’t no way for life to go on.
Without fresh water, our sons and our daughters are done.
